Conveyor System Research

Move product without interrupting the production rhythm.

Conveyor systems create fixed material paths between operations using belts, rollers, chains, overhead carriers, powered zones, accumulation, transfers, and controls. The right design supports product orientation, spacing, routing, and line balance.

Conveyor Systems / System DiagramPRD-05 / PRODUCTION FLOW
01 / Production Structure

Build the system around flow, not isolated machine speed.

Sequence, cycle time, handoffs, buffers, operator work, controls, inspection, downtime, and recovery all influence the output that reaches the end of the process.

02 / Design Criteria

The interfaces between stations determine stability.

Good production design minimizes starvation, blocking, unnecessary travel, inconsistent presentation, long changeovers, and uneven station workload.

CRIT-A

Product Behavior

Stable products, totes, pallets, loose parts, fragile items, and irregular loads require different conveyor surfaces, guides, supports, and transfer methods.

CRIT-B

Accumulation

Zero-pressure or controlled accumulation can decouple stations, but the amount and location of buffer capacity should be chosen intentionally.

CRIT-C

Merges & Diverts

Routing points need sensing and control logic so product streams combine or separate without collisions, backups, or lost tracking.

CRIT-D

Speed Matching

Conveyor velocity and spacing should match upstream release and downstream acceptance rates rather than simply running as fast as possible.

03 / Technical Views

Map the production behavior before changing the hardware.

These diagrams focus on sequence, buffering, line balance, cell flow, and conveyor routing rather than decorative visuals.

Conveyor routing.

Changes in direction, elevation, and product orientation should preserve spacing and stable movement through the line.

Merge control.

Two product streams require sensing, priority logic, and controlled spacing before they can share one downstream path.

Tempo Principle

Conveyors should support the production process, not dictate it. Product behavior, routing, accumulation, controls, speed, and transfer geometry determine whether material movement stays smooth.
